About Our Website

Zora Neale Hurston was an author in the early 20th century who explored themes of African American culture, folklife in Florida, and life in the everglades. Her novel Their Eyes Were Watching God exemplifies many of these themes. Her life and research is reflected in this novel through the setting (the everglades), the characters (mostly African Americans in the 30s), and the culture of the characters. This website explores digital archives that display Hurston's research and themes in her works.
